A Special 50th Anniversary Visit
Recently, Tony and Annette Godwin made a special visit to AGW, the company that Tony co-founded alongside his lifelong friend, George Wainwright, over 50 years ago. Their visit marked a heartwarming moment for both the staff and the company, as it allowed us to reflect on a legacy of hard work, passion, and innovation that has shaped AGW into what it is today. Having similar interests and both being made redundant from their previous job, Tony and George saw an opportunity to create something of their own that reflected their shared values and aspirations, which formed the birth of AGW Electronics in 1975. They created the name ‘AGW’ as an amalgamation of their initials, being Anthony Godwin and George Wainwright, marking the start of their new partnership.
From the very beginning, Tony’s wife, Annette, also played an instrumental role in the company’s growth and success. As AGW’s secretary, Annette took charge of the accounts and administration, ensuring the business ran smoothly as it expanded, all the way up until five years ago, when she left the company in safe hands. Tony followed suit a couple of years later and announced his retirement, but their presence is still very much of a part of AGW.
Upon returning to visit AGW, the warmth and respect they received from the team showed how much they’ve impacted everyone over the years and the relationships that they have built. While Tony and Annette may have stepped back from the day-to-day operations of AGW, their legacy continues to inspire the team, and the family name continues to live on through generations.
As AGW moves into the next phase of its journey, the values instilled by Tony and George will continue to guide the company for generations to come.
